PURC Pays Courtesy Call on Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG)

The Executive Secretary, Dr. Ishmael Ackah, together with a section of Management and staff, on Wednesday, October 19, 2022, paid a courtesy call on Management of the Electricity Company of Ghana (ECG).

Dr. Ishmael Ackah, who led the delegation from PURC, was accompanied by Director-Research and Corporate Affairs, Dr. Eric Obutey, Director-Energy Services and Performance Monitoring, Ing. Frederick Oblitey, Greater Accra Regional Manager-Ms. Gifty Bruce-Nelson, and Head-Executive Secretary’s Secretariat, Ms. Maame Esi Eshun.

In his remarks, Dr. Ackah stated the purpose of the visit was to understand the operations and challenges of ECG, while exploring areas of mutual interest and collaboration, to reform the regulatory regime. Ing. Oblitey also commended ECG for improvements on their technical indicators, citing SAIDI and SAIFI, although the CAIDI benchmarks needed strengthening. Additionally, he implored ECG to be receptive to the Commission’s information requests to enable timely assessment and feedback on the company’s technical performance indicators.

In his briefing, the Managing Director of ECG, Mr. Samuel Dubik Mahama, indicated ECG has enjoyed a fruitful working relationship with the Commission. He further commended the Commission for its constructive criticisms and constant monitoring of the company’s operations. Mr. Mahama also assured the delegation that ECG is strengthening its grievance procedures to ensure customers are served better.

The Managing Director recommended quarterly engagements with the Commission to foster good growth and information flow between the two institutions. He thus assured ECG would consult with the Commission occasionally to assist in shaping their efforts.
